Apple Dumpling Week 2007 2200 approx Dumplings made in one 1 ½ hour work day with 35 people and a two hour work day with 25 people. (Sept 15 and Sept.22) The Coco-Cola booth was not available this year as the company from Portland, IN went out of business. We discovered this about a month before Mardi Gras. The organizers of Mardi Gras were helpful as far as suggestions, but no one really had a good option for us. The women of the church decided to try setting up a 10x10 white 3 sided tent in the front of the church yard and sell apple dumplings and sandwiches from there. This was an unknown adventure and we were unsure of what to expect. As the week unfolded, with the weather being excellent, the overall attendance at Mardi Gras was excellent. The women baked from 150-250 each night and sold out early every night. Many people saw the wooden apple sign on our spot and walked down to the church for their dumplings. Many sat on the tables and chairs we provided to the west of the booth. The first night we had one table and Thursday and Friday night they put up two tables. One would have been enough for Saturday. Saturday sells were slow but steady. There was a lot of drive up business that was unexpected. There was also many more frozen dumpling sales through the tent out in front and sales from people who didn’t know about the Mardi Gras and saw the tent on their way through town, or people who just didn’t want to fight the crowds at Mardi Gras and came only to our tent. We sold out of all baked and frozen dumplings by 6 PM on Saturday night.
